Amsterdam has a rigid planning. Architect Anne Dessing thinks that a more ad-hoc approach may result in an architecture that has a stronger relationship with the existing environment. To investigate this, she went to India, a country where the subject of planned construction is hardly ever raised.

Anne: “The outcome is the work Pairi Daeze, which serves as a test case to look at Amsterdam with new eyes. The approach of this design research is to enable living in premises in the city that do not seem very obvious, but which because of their location and their unique character are very attractive indeed.”

“It is a proposal for a residential building in the Rembrandtpark. The subject is sensitive, because there is a general trend to keep our hands off nature. But in fact anyone would just love to live there. In this design, the new residents benefit from the qualities of the park. Besides, the large lines that were planned from above, such as the brutal asphalt road that currently rages through the park, will be integrally revised.”
