1 km of balconies

By 20-03-2015

Studio Ineke Hans has designed 1 km of balcony fences, garden gates and French balconies for the recently completed Hof van Sevenhuijsen building in Haarlem.

The building has high-rise apartments on one side and single-family houses on the other side. These houses have French balconies, while the apartments have high and lower balcony fences, all with distinctive leaf patterns. The courtyard and the underground parking are accessible through garden gates decorated with leaf patterns as well.

Ineke Hans: “The design came into being in consultation with architectural firm Kühne & Co from Rotterdam. We wanted to respect the design of the building, which is cleverly structured, but rather sober. In our opinion, the building could definitely handle a clear-cut addition.”

“The gates were made by laser-cutting angles from steel tubes. These tubes were then simply folded. In this way, we managed to avoid a lot of residual waste and minimize the welding activities.”
