Spoorbouwmeester Bert Dirrix
Early this year, architect and urban planner Bert Dirrix was appointed the new Spoorbouwmeester (Government Railway Architect). On January 1, 2015, he succeeded Koen van Velsen, who held the post for six years. In principle Dirrix will fulfill this role for three years.
Bert Dirrix (1954) is an architect/Director of diederendirrix, together with Paul Diederen. In 1978 he graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the TU Eindhoven. In 1990 he won the Prix de Rome. Until 2003, he was a professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology and taught at the Academy of Architecture in Tilburg, Maastricht, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Arnhem and at the Design Academy Eindhoven. He is a member of the supervision team Strijp R Eindhoven and supervisor of the Drie Hoefijzers Breda.
As Spoorbouwmeester, Dirrix is responsible for the design policy in the rail sector, ranging from the integration of the railroads in the landscape to the interiors of railway stations. He is also involved in the construction and renovation of train stations, such as those in The Hague and Amsterdam.
