De Ceuvel

By 13-11-2014

The project De Ceuvel, nominated in the category Habitat, has won the Frame Public Award (FPA) on 25 October. The selection committee: ‘De Ceuvel gives the impression of a utopia that has actually been accomplished.’

De Ceuvel, a co-creation of DELVA Landscape Architects, space and matter en Metabolic, brings a former shipyard in Amsterdam North back to life. The contaminated soil is purified by constructing a garden in which old houseboats are placed that have been refurbished by the community to their own taste. Affordable accommodation and housing not only cleans the site, but also lays a solid foundation in the form of a committed community. A strength of the project is the fact that it not only arose from a community but also was developed by one. Only the essential preconditions were outlined, so organizations and parties had the opportunity to develop their own plans.

The Frame Public Award is organised by Dutch Design Awards (DDA) and the leading design and interior magazine Frame Publishers. The award was part of the Dutch Design Week.
