The End of Sitting
Architects and brothers Erik and Ronald Rietveld of studio RAAAF have developed the experimental office environment The End of Sitting.
We all know that sitting is bad for us, and yet we sit all day long. Therefore, studio RAAAF developed an experimental office environment in which people can stand, hang or lie down. The End of Sitting is in fact a strategy to seduce people to take on different poses.
In the Rietveld’s studio, there is a small model that looks like the monkey enclosure of the Artis zoo: the model for an experimental office plan which is currently worked on.
The trigger for RAAAF was a request by the Chief Government Architect’s studio. With the famous quote ‘Sitting is the new smoking’ in mind, the brothers set to work.
