Room On The Roof interior

By 13-02-2015

i29 interior architects have designed the interior for ‘Room On The Roof’ in the tower of the Bijenkorf in Amsterdam. An artist-in-residence program, where national and international artists, writers, musicians, architects and designers can stay and work on their projects.

A bed to dream in, binoculars for the city’s view, a special menu to eat and a perfect location on the Dam provide the artists with plenty of inspiration. Design agency i29 have created an installation in which they play with scale, perception and alienation. This way, they created a unique world that can be compared to the universe of Alice in Wonderland.

One side of the apartment is entirely white, while the other side consists of a wall-filling wooden volume, in which all of the different functions, such as a pantry, a workplace and a bed, are stacked on top of each other. The monumental spiral staircase to the dome contributes to the magical atmosphere that should provide inspiration for the artists.
