Het Wilde Oog – Joseph Beuys

By 11-10-2016

Eight visual artists/designers have accepted the invitation of Het Wilde Oog to create two objects/pieces of jewelry that establish a link between two worlds: the traditional costume of Spakenburg and the art by Joseph Beuys.

In their appearance, the Spakenburg women show to be part of a community, whereas Beuys in his work reminds us of the absence of common ideals. The starched kraplap (signature shoulder cover) is an archetype, just like the felt that Beuys uses. “The painting doesn’t stop at the frame” is what he once said, while The Wild Eye believes that the kraplap doesn’t stop at Spakenburg.

Eight artists/designers, i.e. Lucy Sarneel, Marianne van Heeswijk, Maria Roosen, Keiko Sato, Couzijn van Leeuwen, Ted Noten, Rob Scholte and Maison the Faux, have revitalized the kraplappen of 16 deceased Spakenburg women. To familiarize themselves with the subject, Hendrikje Kuis and Wijmpje Koelewijn from Spakenburg visited the artists in their studios, from Den Bosch to Den Helder.

Het Wilde Oog – artist duo Hans Lemmerman and Inge van Run – has since 2000 portrayed women in traditional costumes.
