In Limbo Embassy

By 29-06-2015

Living in Limbo: refugees whose applications for asylum have been rejected often fall through the cracks and are prohibited from working. Manon van Hoeckel initiated the project ‘In Limbo Embassy’ as a neutral meeting place that represents this group.

The ambassadors – themselves refugees – invite and involve officials, neighbors and passers-by.  The embassy also exploits a legal loophole to give refugees work: Printed Matters is a confronting series of ‘official’ portraits of the ambassadors that can be sold under the right to freedom of expression.

Manon van Hoeckel: “I want to create an opportunity for dialogue, debate and cultural exchange on equal footing.”
