A Stage of Luminosity

By 25-05-2019

A Stage of Luminosity is a crossover between cultural heritage and new media; it consists of two 12-meter high and 4-meter wide projections on the Stationsplein in the city of Roermond. At the invitation of Viewmaster Projects, artist Arno Coenen has created two new video works which bring to life the unique and valuable paper image archive of the Roermond glaziers studio ‘NV Glasschilderkunst F. Nicolas and sons, since 1940 Max Weiss in Roermond’.

Last year, the several meters-long historical design and working drawings which were mainly meant for ecclesiastical stained-glass windows(made between 1855 and 1969)were digitized by order of the municipality of Roermond. Arno Coenen has transformed a selection from the archive into two computer animations full of sparkling fields of color and light, three-dimensional effects and kaleidoscopic patterns. Two different video works, each of which originating from the heritage collection, are putting a completely new perspective on stained glass windows.

After Roermond, A Stage of Luminosity travels to city squares in Maastricht (Vrijthof) and Venlo (Museumplein).
