Absolute Leisure

By 24-07-2016

In the book ‘Absolute Leisure’ Winy Maas and Alexander Sverdlov communicate their vision of the future of leisure activities. Think tank The Why Factory shows the influence of our leisure activities on landscapes, cities and architecture.

Our society is one of leisure time lovers and pleasure connoisseurs. We can order fun for 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year. But who is keeping an eye on the reserves while we are having a good time? Is the world producing enough to satisfy this ever-increasing consumption?

The architectural and urban projects presented in ‘Absolute Leisure’ are questioning the current leisure activities and sketching the possibilities. The book includes articles by architects Winy Maas and Alexander Sverdlov. They give critical thinkers in the field of contemporary leisure and professionals who keep the leisure machine running the space they need to express their opinions.

International think tank The Why Factory is an initiative of the Faculty of Architecture of TU Delft and architectural firm MVRDV. It conducts research into future issues in urban development and architecture.
