Mister Adam

By 10-10-2016

I find doing just one thing boring. Unless you’re extremely good at that one thing, of course, but I don’t have that talent. Everywhere around you are beautiful things to experience, as long as you’re not too judgmental. If I have to define my work, I’d say that it consists of four categories that are now closely intertwined:

Graphic designer: as a designer, I work for a variety of clients, from large and commercial to small and cultural, in a team or solo, I work digitally and make printed products.

Printmaker: since my studies I have been spending a lot of time in the printing office. This has been triggered by the need for experimentation and the love of the physical work, old-fashioned graphic techniques, working with inks and paper.

Collaborator: I cannot exist without other people. Fellow designers, poets, dancers, artists or neighborhood kids – it’s not always going well, but any kind of cooperation is instructive. It leads to new ideas, new work, new projects, and new concepts. I can see connections everywhere. Between different (art) disciplines, locations and groups of people.

Teacher: at the ArtEZ Academy of Art & Design Arnhem, I work with students from different departments: Graphic, Illustration, Comic and Animation Design. My goal is to teach students craftsmanship and help them to develop a firm, active signature of their own. Besides, it is very inspiring to get to know all those different students and their ideas.

If there is one constant in my work, it is typography. The love for characters and language transcends all of the above categories. Twenty-six characters, that’s all I need.”
