Aldo Bakker. PAUSE
The first major retrospective of the work of Dutch designer Aldo Bakker (1971) is put on display in the Center for Innovation and Design (CID) in Grand-Hornu in Belgium until August 14, 2016. At the opening the monograph ‘Aldo Bakker’ was presented.
Self-taught designer Aldo Bakker set up his own design studio at an early age. He often collaborates with craftsmen whose expertise and material sense contribute to the characteristic signature of his work. With the exhibition ‘Aldo Bakker. PAUSE’, CID presents an overview of his work for the very first time. As a curator, Aldo Bakker himself designed the exhibition.
The monograph presents Bakker’s work of the last twenty years. The introduction of the publication is written by design critic Alice Rawsthorn. Art critic Hans den Hartog Jager reflects on Bakker’s work, with great attention to form, material and context.
Hans den Hartog Jager: “Aldo Bakker does not abide to the rules of traditional design. In his work, familiar objects always take on surprising, new forms. His designs require a different way of looking, thinking and feeling.”
