Bakkie Trots

By 18-03-2021

Bakkie Trots (Cup of Pride) is a ceramic line made of local clay. The ground on which we’re standing is full of stories. Old memories and memories that still have to be created. Sometimes personal, sometimes collective. The Bakkie Trots’s bakkies are made of local clay, which makes each bakkie unique and telling a story of its own. The pattern on the cup shows the bottom layers of the location in question. Together, these cups are telling a proud story about connection.

Who bakes these bakkies? Founder Iris Veentjer does this together with various social workshops. In this way Bakkie Trots wants to offer people with a distance from the labor market the opportunity to work with pleasure and pride on a craft product.

The Dutch soil has a lot of clay in various places, sea clay and river clay. Clay that settled down thousands of years ago. Small particles of stone that have been moved for kilometers by erosion, or for example, by a flood, find their way to places where we have then built up our existence. We collect clay that is released during construction or renovation work, and then we used the clay to make cups of it. Each location has its own story with a clay layer that is shaped in a specific way. As a result, the cups of the various locations are different in processing and final color.
