Bauhaus& TextielLab – Marijn van Kreij

By 14-09-2019

The TextielMuseum used the Bauhaus’ 100-year anniversary as an opportunity to invite four artists to produce new pieces for the museum’s collection in the TextielLab. Koen Taselaar, Krijn de Koning, Marijn van Kreij and Saskia Noor van Imhoffused the high- and low-tech possibilities in the TextielLab to shape their ideas, which were inspired by the Bauhaus.

In 1928, Gunta Stölzl weaves one of her most famous tapestries, 5 Chöre. For Marijn van Kreij, this tapestry forms the starting point for his collection assignment. For him, an existing image is a starting point, on which he continues to work. In his own words: “When studying and copying such an image, differences naturally arise. It is a form of “processing” someone else’s work.
