Bloedmaan
Student Nominee DuPho. SO Award 2022
In March 2020, a mere few weeks after Jaime Korbees’ dad breathed his last breath, the world went into lockdown. Personal grief was brutally repressed by mass insecurity, fear, confusion and suspicion among a population that mainly lives within four walls.
Korbee tried to capture this schizophrenic world with his camera during his walks, the only permitted outdoor activity at the time. The result is the project ‘Bloedmaan’ (‘Blood Moon’). Even though nothing appears to have changed in our visible world, the invisible threat and his personal loss put everything in a totally different perspective.
Jury
“It is mysterious, cinematic, and a very powerful original due to a dominant use of colour.”
