Coachella Festival – BUOYED

By 23-04-2022

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2022 returns to the desert with compelling installations

Kiki van Eijk is the first Dutch artist/designer to be commissioned to create a large-scale installation at Coachella.

Under the title BUOYED, she designed three large-scale sculptures measuring almost 7×12 metres, which are finally coming to life after two years. The three totems are designed to mix different cultural identities and iconographies, emphasising the power of diversity when embraced. By mixing Asian architectural references with Dutch windmills and Arctic Igloos with tropical leaves, Kiki van Eijk builds her imaginative islands of connection and safe territories of peace.

We live in extraordinarily challenging times, but music is one of the most powerful catalysts of collective joy and the sharing of experiences provides a sense of connection. It helps to overcome our sense of disconnection and find common humanity. to find common humanity.

“I needed to build something optimistic. My buoys are cheerful totems that metaphorically prevent you from sinking when we get together.”
