Studio Airport: “Our assignment was to design and curate an exhibition space that houses artwork that is kept in storage, unseen by the public. Stedelijk Museum Breda (Netherlands) is a national museum renowned for displaying prominent and radical artworks. The museum’s ethos runs through its experimental branding and curation of exhibitions.”

“The project involved a vast amount of research and it was important that the exhibition should communicate this feeling of exploration to the visitor. Thus, the idea of ‘questions’ became fundamental to the concept and design of the exhibition. Each piece has an information card that includes an intriguing question, e.g. ‘Two brothers or one person?’”

“The actual categorisation in the depot is what inspired the design of the exhibition. Each artwork is displayed without information, except for a code and a question, the code being the one used in the depot. The visitor then matches the code to the corresponding number on the information card wall.”
