Couture Objects
After being originally trained as a furniture maker, Sien Entius started to work with textiles when she became a designer. At first it was mainly the making of garments, later she continued with installations of abstract textile shapes. During the process of making them she realized she was still applying her knowledge of furniture making without actually working with wood as a material.
The idea of a crossover between fashion and furniture became an ongoing fascination and resulted in the Couture Objects collection: three couture textile cabinets for her body (couture means made to exact measurements of a customer or in this case: herself). Together they form the trilogy of cabinets used most in daily life: a bookcase, a wardrobe and a kitchen cabinet. To showcase them she designed and made three wooden mannequins. In the continuous development of fashionable furniture she explores the application of textile in furniture and the connection between furniture and the body: the front parts of a jacket could function as the doors of a cabinet and a stool has legs that could wear pants.
Couture Objects was on show during OBJECT Rotterdam 2024.
