Dd, Dutch designers Yearbook 2022

By 09-12-2022

The BNO publishes the third edition of Dd, Dutch designers Yearbook. A year of Dutch design in one book: from award-winning design to iconic designers. Discover their ingenuity in a chaotic year plagued by the polycrisis and uncertainty.

Dutch designers are known worldwide for their originality and bold innovations, and their work permeates the capillaries of our society. Design is everywhere: design shapes today’s world and anticipates tomorrow’s. The recent period has been marked by the aftermath of the pandemic, an unexpected war, out-of-control climate problems and unprecedented inflation: it is a chaotic time. Although these crises also affect the creative sector profoundly, such an uncertain period further challenges designers to think about the future. How can they help find answers to the dilemmas of these times? What can their role be in the necessary transitions?

Dutch designers Yearbook ’22 highlights the design year under the motto chaos and looks ahead. The book gives a candid insight into what designers are thinking and making now: via essays by climate diplomat Yvo de Boer and journalist Jeroen Junte, inspired final exam work from Dutch design schools, award-winning design cases, a visual essay on artificial intelligence, portraits of image-defining designers such as Petra Blaisse, Chequita Nahar and tinker imagineers, the jubilee development project Driving Dutch Design, and interviews with a.o. the Ukrainian studio Between the Walls, solar designers Marjan van Aubel and Pauline van Dongen, and outgoing BNO director Madeleine van Lennep.

This book is an initiative and production of the BNO, and is published in collaboration with nai010 publishers. Dutch designers Yearbook is distributed free of charge to designers and agencies affiliated with the BNO. The book will be available from 17 December 2022 in bookstores and online at bno.nl/dd-yearbook and nai010.com, and will be festively launched on 15 December 2022 at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
