De Vrijgieterij

By 04-03-2020

De Vrijgieterij, a playground for the everyday person, was founded to seek liberation from the common set of rules and preconceptions embedded in the framework of the design practice. De Vrijgieterij, translated as Free Foundry, is a space for experimentation and free expression. The action of making is the only essential ingredient. Applied in a childlike manner, it sets out to recall the very roots of creation and enhance its joys and potentials.

The process is fast and intuitive with a big margin for accidents and chance. Moulds are shaped manually and poured with a material of choice. There are no restrictions regarding the methods or materials used. Everyone can figure out their own way of doing, fast or slow, careful or careless. The design process is stripped down to its most primitive form, allowing the manual input to become a part of the final object.

The personal signature is present more literally than conceptually to emphasize the Making and not the maker. The aim is to recollect the pleasure of doing and to cut through conventional rules and norms.

De Vrijgieterij is a collaboration between Lucas Maassen and Hossie and is represented by A1041 Gallery in Paris.
