DeFlat Kleiburg big winner Dutch Design Awards 2017

By 30-10-2017

EINDHOVEN – On Saturday 28 October, during Dutch Design Week, the Dutch Design Awards were presented. DeFlat Kleiburg by NL Architects and XVW architectuur was rewarded with the Future Award, making it this year’s big winner. They also won in the Habitat category. The jury was unequivocal: “DeFlat Kleiburg sends out a clear and positive message: community building is the future. This approach offers opportunities for the enormous number of similar tasks at home and abroad.”

DeFlat addresses an urgent topic: throughout the world, a multitude of buildings built in the 1960s and 1970s deserve renovation rather than the wrecking ball. The jury particularly praises the fact that a tangible solution is offered for the genuine, international problem of scalable re-appropriation. After several attempts at revitalising developments in the Bijlmer Amsterdam, DeFlat Kleiburg is the first to succeed, genuinely improving the quality of life of the block’s residents and the community. An encouraging example.
