One Week About Graphic Matters by curator Graphic Matters

Emojis are positive, non-critical symbols, not suitable for a critical message. The interactive Demoji.pro installation enables you to show your true feelings.

In collaboration with Lava Design and Lava Lab, Mantas Rimkus created this platform for his graduation project at the Willem de Kooning Academy.

Mantas, a Lithuanian designer living in the Netherlands, decided it was time to create symbols for matters like war, corruption, and environmental problems. Symbols that everyone can understand. There’s a globe dripping with blood, a smiley with black tape over his mouth, a security camera, and drops of oil. By combining the demojis you can create strong images that depict world problems.

Mantas was inspired by the famous symbols of large protest movements. The pink hat with cat ears which is associated with the international Women’s March and the Guy Fawkes mask that became the symbol of hacker group Anonymous.

The designer made a few posters himself, in which he combined the demoji, but they’re royalty-free, so on demoji.pro you can create your very own poster.

At the Demoji.pro installation at Graphic Matters you can make you own posters with paint and stencils.
