Dekmantel Festival São Paulo

By 23-03-2018

Design for a Festival with Dutch roots in Brazil’s urban jungle
Amsterdam-based design duo Colorado created the online and on-site identity for the Dekmantel Festival São Paulo. Dekmantel is a versatile music company that releases cutting-edge dance music and is also the name of a festival well appreciated for its deep and genuine passion for underground dance music.

Last year’s identity took its inspiration from the curvaceous Brazilian buildings designed by Oscar Niemeyer. This year, the concrete evolved back to nature, calling to mind the jungle and the bodies of water surrounding São Paulo. The flowing graphics challenge the recognizable shape of the existing Dekmantel square. Liquid images are paired with bold typography to keep things grounded and a vibrant color palette is used to create a festive tropical atmosphere.

Nine Fluitsma worked as an independent designer, mixing commissioned work with art projects, for ten years. Remco Oude Alink was part of the renowned design studio Thonik for eleven years. Last year, the two decided to set up a studio together. Poetic yet strategic, confident and cheerful, Colorado’s work is rooted in the tradition of Dutch Design, yet always tries to create an unconventional aesthetic.
