Design Nonfiction

By 29-04-2020

Design Nonfiction is an on-going series of interviews with leaders in the design world, conceptualized and produced by Tellart. The project investigates how design has transformed with the rise of machine intelligence. Tellart commissioned Superposition to design the identity for the documentary series, which involves motion graphics for trailers and interviews, posters for exhibitions, and more.

Superposition: “Rather than design each asset individually, we designed and programmed a generative design tool that allows the user to create an infinite number of designs. Central to the identity is the idea that each interviewee has an individual perspective on the field of design. The identity had to reflect this plurality of views and voices, and represent the fluidity of the field of design and its many interpretations.”

“We created a design tool that gives the designer control over a container of expressive ‘ether’ – a space in which everything exists at the same time. The parameters of this ether allow the designer to expressively explore its tone and shape and then output animated footage as well as high-resolution still imagery.”

“We used this tool to generate footage for every video that comes out of the project and every instance of printed matter. We also handed over the tool to Tellart to allow them to discover and generate forms as well.
