Discover Tessa van der Waals

By 30-11-2019

On November 20, 2019 Winter & Company organized a Discover afternoon in De Monsterkamer with designer and book supervisor Tessa van der Waals. She was interviewed by Andrea van Pol. How does Tessa proceed? How does she motivate her choices?

Immediately after graduating from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (1985), Tessa van der Waals started as a designer of the Cultural Supplement of NRC Handelsblad. As an independent designer, she continued to work in the cultural sector, for literary publishers and museums and together with visual artists and photographers. In 1991 she designed her first book cover for Publishing House Bert Bakker. She is responsible for all the design of Museum De Pont since its establishment in 1992.

The Monsterkamer is an independent platform for paper and printed matter; it was founded to increase and maintain the commitment to the topic of paper. Knowledge sharing, inspiration and exchange are central issues. Anyone who wants to have printed matter produced is welcome for free paper advice in our studio at the IJ in Amsterdam.
