Dock Office

By 10-04-2020

“For the sustainable transport company Airhunters, we developed in collaboration with Plastic Fantastic the new plastic office ‘Dock  Office’. This project shows that plastic waste can be used as a building material in order to reduce the amount of plastic waste that ends up in nature.

The realization of Dock Office was a dynamic project. This new application of the building material demanded an innovative and creative development process. We cooperated together from start to finish: designing the building, researching plastic as a building material and figuring out how to build smartly with plastic on a large scale. So we are a bit of an architect, material expert and builder in one.”

The exterior of the Dock Office is entirely made of recycled plastic. The building has a steel frame to make it possible to realize the pronounced shape with plastic. To realize the exact design, Collectief Soepel used 3D modeling software. This made it possible to use production techniques such as laser cutting and CNC rollers. Partly as a result of this, the office was realized very fast.

The office has a unique view of an old arm of the river Rhine: it is situated on a pier of the IPKW site. In order to realize this office with its technical challenges, Collectief Soepel has worked closely with Save Plastics and the University of Arnhem and Nijmegen.
