Driving Dutch Design – Chloé Rutzerveld

By 21-08-2021

ONE WEEK ABOUT Driving Dutch Design by curators Patrick Aarts Sen (BNO) and Katja Lucas (DDF)

Driving Dutch Design is the professionalisation and networking programme of ABN AMRO, Beroepsorganisatie Nederlandse Ontwerpers (BNO) and Dutch Design Foundation (DDF) that helps talented designers get started in the world of entrepreneurship. Chloé Rutzerveld is one of them.

How far are people prepared to go if they insist on eating meat in the future? Isn’t undigested food also a form of food waste? And what if we switch to a radically new food system based on edible microbial biomass?

As a Food Designer / Food Futurist, Chloé Rutzerveld questions and investigates new ways of food production and consumption. She translates multidisciplinary research into speculative future scenarios for the possible implementation of new food technologies in society. She makes these ‘What If’ scenarios tangible by means of prototypes, interactive installations and experimental dinners. Through wonder and/or provocation, she gets a broad audience thinking about the future of our food.

After graduating Cum Laude from Industrial Design at Eindhoven University of Technology in 2014, Chloé started her Food Design studio. Besides self-initiated (research) projects, Chloé works as a curator, guest lecturer, creative consultant for companies and gives international lectures on the food of the future.

In 2018 Chloé published her first book: Food Futures – How Design and Technology can Reshape our Food System, in 2019 she curated the first adult exhibition ‘Food of Tomorrow’ for science museum NEMO in Amsterdam. This year Chloé is curator of the Embassy of Food where she is working on an exhibition about the Supermarket of the Future that will be on display during Dutch Design Week in the Klokgebouw.

Driving Dutch Design
“Especially the masterclasses of Driving Dutch Design (on finance, communication strategy and legal matters) are very insightful and useful for the professionalisation of my design studio!”
