Driving Dutch Design – Karin Fischnaller

By 13-08-2022

ONE WEEK ABOUT Driving Dutch Design by curators Patrick Aarts Sen (BNO) and Katja Lucas (DDF)

Driving Dutch Design is the professionalisation and networking programme of ABN AMRO, Beroepsorganisatie Nederlandse Ontwerpers (BNO) and Dutch Design Foundation (DDF) that helps talented designers get started in the world of entrepreneurship. Karin Fischnaller, owner of Information design studio The Anderen, is one of them.

There is so much information to explore and absorb in today’s world! As interface-builders, the Anderen builds a bridge by taking big, unwieldy chunks of raw information and converting it into digestible bites. We make knowledge accessible to the user while adding a layer of research-informed synthesis. Our work stretches the norms of standard digital interface design, playing with tension and subtlety to encourage the user’s free navigation, sparking new knowledge.

Organising mountains of data seems like a task that calls for deep analytic thinking, but we think it’s crucial to begin the process with playfulness and intuition. This provides us with unique angles and novel approaches to solving the problem at hand.

The Anderen’s research seeks to challenge; exposing paradoxes and hegemony in order to inform public debate. Within this work, we remain committed to visualising complexity and playing the role of facilitator in engaging people with the societally relevant topics of the day.
