Driving Dutch Design – Leon van Lier

By 14-08-2019

ONE WEEK ABOUT Driving Dutch Design by curators Marsha Simon (BNO) and Katja Lucas (DDF)

“As an interior designer I wondered what I can contribute to the health of people. I discovered that on average we spend 90% of the time indoors and that this has an effect on our body. By spending so much time indoors we miss a great source of positive stimulation, the kind of stimulation that we find in a natural environment.”

“This works as follows: from an evolutionary perspective, our body is based on a life in nature. Many scientists have proven that our senses relax better or are activated more positively in a natural environment. By adding living elements from nature, you can create indoor spaces that create a tranquilizing effect, more focus or more energy.”

“The products or interior designs I create contain these natural elements. This is why  someone may experience a constant calmness through my design, for example, when he/she is working. It is my goal to turn the interior space, where we undoubtedly will spend much more time, into a place that is less separated from the outside. As a result, we will get less exhausted and we will have more energy left at the end of the day to enjoy life to the full.”

“As a Driver I learn my own value as a creative thinker. Ideas like this are valuable to many people. By knowing the value of creative thinking, I see it as a goal to share this with society.”
