Driving Dutch Design – studio New West

By 22-08-2021

ONE WEEK ABOUT Driving Dutch Design by curators Patrick Aarts Sen (BNO) and Katja Lucas (DDF)

Driving Dutch Design is the professionalisation and networking programme of ABN AMRO, Beroepsorganisatie Nederlandse Ontwerpers (BNO) and Dutch Design Foundation (DDF) that helps talented designers get started in the world of entrepreneurship. Jack Westerlaken and Edward van Dongen of studio New West, are one of them.

“We collect stories that need to be told. Stories that stay with you. For us, a story is where it all begins. With these stories, we want to convey a message. For this, we use our favourite medium, film. With film, we set stories in motion.

We are curious about what drives someone to do what he or she does. Everyone has their own story. Stories that make the world a bit better and more fun, solve a problem, offer an opportunity or give a new perspective. We love to dive into new worlds and share them with the world.

For each project, we look at which story fits best. We use storytelling techniques to get the message across visually and aurally. We learned this during our studies at the Art Academy, the School of Journalism and in practice. Stories ultimately create recognition and connection.”

“During DDD, we developed our business skills. We learned how to clearly explain who we are, what we do and why we do it. And especially what we should leave out. In addition, it has brought us a nice group of like-minded people with whom we can spar.”
