Dutch Design Awards 2008

By 08-10-2017

15 Years Dutch Design Awards
Dutch Design Awards (DDA) celebrates the future. The open call for Dutch Design Awards 2017 announces the 15th edition of the most prestigious design prizes in the country. DDA has rewarded Dutch designers since 2003 for their most impressive, innovative, ground-breaking and sometimes world-improving projects. In this anniversary year DDA celebrates the future with a new batch of designs, publishing the archive and telling the story behind 15 years of the best of Dutch design. Today we show some of the winners from 2008.

Shay Arkalay – Arco-Cabinet Pivot
A stunning cabinet that is eminently suitable for storing small items and everyday objects in a permanent place. The high-legged cabinet of massive wood stands has two hinged drawers, which can be opened and accessed at the same time, unlike ordinary drawers.

Philips Design – Shaver Arcitec
The Philips Arcitec Shaver is designed for dry shaving. The heads in the conspicuous shaving end rotate in the direction of the shaving surface.

ROYAL VKB – VKB Series 2007/2008
The following designers were asked by Royal VKB to create innovative solutions for household problems: Mix & Measure Lid & Spoon Rest – Jan Hoekstra, Iced Carafe – Officeoriginair, Water Carafe – Arian Brekveld, Nut Cracker – Ineke Hans, Herb Garden – Officeoriginair, Fresh Traveller – Arian Brekveld, Jar Tops – Jorre van Ast

Christien Meindertsma & Julie Joliat – PIG 05049
The dissected pig 05049 depicted in PIG 05049 is after its death distributed across the world in well-measured parts. With surgical precision, the distribution and the use of the pig’s dissected parts are documented in a well-designed photo book with life-sized (1:1) photos of all products.

Catalogtree – Posterserie Parkeergedrag Diplomaten
Poster series about the parking behaviour of diplomats in New York. The graphs on the posters have been generated straight from the New York City parking violations dataset by means of self-developed software.

The Stone Twins  –  SoundCircus
At first sight, they look like clear patterns of sound waves. When you look more closely, and hold the paper somewhat horizontal, these waves appear to be stylish typography. Slogans for various applications are rendered in circus and sound jargon, such as “THE WORLD FAMOUS SOUND STUDIO FEATURING IMPRESSIVE DECAY TIMES & THE STUPENDOUS STANDING WAVES”.

BNO Piet Zwartprijs – Bruno Ninaber van Eyben
This year, the Piet Zwart Oeuvre Prize for the most eminent designer is presented to Bruno Ninaber van Eyben. He is well-known for, among other things, the design of the national side of the Dutch Euro coin and the Sikkens kleurenwaaier (Sikkens colour fan).
