15 Years Dutch Design Awards
Dutch Design Awards (DDA) celebrates the future. The open call for Dutch Design Awards 2017 announces the 15th edition of the most prestigious design prizes in the country. DDA has rewarded Dutch designers since 2003 for their most impressive, innovative, ground-breaking and sometimes world-improving projects. In this anniversary year DDA celebrates the future with a new batch of designs, publishing the archive and telling the story behind 15 years of the best of Dutch design. Today we show some of the winners from 2014.

Victor & Rolf – Haute couture collectie najaar 2013
During the first couture show by Viktor Rolf & in thirteen years, the models wore flat sandals and high-necked, often loose-fitting dresses with asymmetrical bulges. With models in portrait and landscape poses, the designers created a living Zen Garden.

Next Nature Network – The In Vitro Meat Cookbook
Tantalizing visions on the future of our food in the form of a cookbook in which one ingredient – cultured meat – keeps coming back. The book covers topics such as sustainability, food shortage, animal suffering and culinary innovation.

Spark design & innovation – Rescue Tip Board
This inflatable life-raft enables rescue workers to reach a drowning person faster and offer help more effectively. The raft can be tilted, which makes it is easier for the rescue worker to get the victim out of the water and start stabilizing them immediately.

Kummer Herrman – The Sochi Project
‘Slow journalism’ about the region around Sochi (Russia), where in 2014 the Winter Olympics were organized. Stories come together in a monumental publication and a traveling exhibition.

Lemz – Sweetie
Sweetie is a medium developed to combat sex tourism and to expose pedophiles. Via an avatar with the appearance of a young girl, users can identify sex tourists.

Natura Artis Magistra – Best Client Award
Artis (short for Natura Artis Magistra) brings people, animals and plants, art and heritage together in the center of Amsterdam. Artis renewed its design image at different levels, collaborating with several (landscape) architects, designers and artists, including VanLennep (corporate identity), Mijksenaar (signage), Fabrique (website), Dawn (‘Forgotten animals’ campaign) and Pàvel van Houten (wall paper Ledenlokalen)

Het Ceuvelteam – De Ceuvel
Contaminated soil on the site of a former shipyard is purified through the construction of a garden. Visitors are free to refurbish the old houseboats placed in the garden just how they like to. After ten years, the soil will be delivered a lot cleaner.

Team CS – Rotterdam Centraal
The renovated station concourse of Rotterdam Central Station is built of glass and wood and has a pointed roof directed towards the heart of the city. The more modest Northern entrance is in keeping with the character of the district behind it.

Dave Hakkens – Young Designer Award
Industrial designer Dave Hakkens graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2013. He wants to create a better world through making people aware of mass production and the way in which we deal with products. His modular phone project Phone Bloks and the recycle installation Precious Plastic attracted wide international attention.
