Dutch Design Meets Dutch Masters

By 19-09-2019

From 19 to 22 September, 83 Dutch designers are staged and presented next to seventeenth-century paintings as their muses. Together with Maarten Spruyt, curator Nicole Uniquole set up style chambers at locations that will open their doors especially for the occasion of the festival.

The products on display are as varied as the craftsmanship the designers used. Bert Timmermans for example created wall panels for the new interior of the former restaurant Royal. Her Royal Highness Princess Margarita de Bourbon de Parme crafted her Orange Vases with Royal Leerdam. Students of the Royal Academy of the Arts rendered their interpretation of the cornucopia of clothing in the Orange-Naussau paintings from the Hoogsteder Museum Foundation. All year long the students worked on their costumes, which will all be on show during the festival.

Following the success of the first edition in 2018 more locations will be subjected to a royal transformation. The former restaurant Royal at the Lange Voorhout is given a makeover. Masterly The Hague hosts a series of culture-historical lectures. De Bijenkorf once again creates window displays in Masterly style and allure. A free guide tells the stories and also shows 12 prime shops and places to eat and drink in style.

On Saturday the 21st of September at 11.00 am, the Hester van Eeghen Leather Design Award ceremony takes place.
