Dutch Invertuals: Full Circle

By 14-04-2019

ONE WEEK ABOUT Dutch Designers in Milan by Connecting the Dots

Saturday morning, the busiest two days of the Salone have begun and the cocktail parties are starting to take their toll. Raw stock market voices recommend chairs and tables with tired eyes. In the final days it’s now or never, but the mix of professionals and professional aficionados makes it difficult to judge who you are dealing with.

Last night we went to the party of Dutch Invertuals. There we see Eindhoven at its best every year. Dutch Invertuals has presented refined and captivating concepts in Milan for ten years, always around a contemporary theme and created by groups under the direction of curator Wendy Plomp. A vase made of water by Jólan van der Wiel, a colour study through overlapping projections by Raw Color. The concept is important but the presentation of it even more so. This year, the visitors became part of the exhibition when you looked across the circular stage through the room at the work presented at height.

This exhibition has taken place for ten years in the same room. Ten years of mixing materials and techniques in the most attractive form. All possible combinations seem to have passed. The result is a library of ideas and possibilities, which is of course never complete. When will Dutch Invertuals’ circle be full?

I’m going to get another round.
