Exhibition Claudy Jongstra

By 11-12-2020

Claudy Jongstra practices many activities at the same time: visual artist, shepherd, peasant farmer and activist. Her sculptural works travel the world and have an entirely  unique signature. By going back to the origins of wool, weaving and color, Jongstra makes her audience think about the interaction between man and nature. In the exhibition Claudy Jongstra, Museum De Lakenhal connects all these aspects in a sensory experience.

Especially for Museum De Lakenhal Jongstra made new works: NINE and Cosmic Cry that together form an installation. NINE is the largest woven work jongstra ever made and it flows through space like an earthy landscape. In this way Jongstra places a critical note on monoculture and landscapes filled with solar panels.

Also Woven Skin (2018) can after a world tour again be seen in the Netherlands. A nomadic work that exudes urgency, an indictment of the exhaustion of our earth. The matted rags look like skinned skins and refer to losing our protection. A nomadic work that emanates urgency, an indictment of the exhaustion of our earth. The skinned rags look like skinned hides and refer to the loss of our protection.
