Exhibition Dirk Vander Kooij

By 05-06-2016

Dirk Vander Kooij (1983) is regarded as a leading designer in the field of the application of new technologies. With a 3D printer and press developed by himself, he has made a collection of unique products ranging from chairs to lighting and from tables to accessories such as clothes hangers.

In the coming months, Yksi Expo shows an overview of the work of this ‘master of the new craft’. During his studies at the Eindhoven Design Academy, Dirk Vander Kooij got acquainted with the 3D printing technology. “The technique has existed for about 40 years now. With the old 3D-machines you could still see the print lines. I liked that very much.” For his graduation project (2009) he decided to considerably enlarge this phenomenon in order to make the technique clearly visible. He designed a robotic arm to extrude large objects such as pieces of furniture with complete recycled material, a world first.

On June 24, during a breakfast session from 8:30 am-10:30 am, Dirk Vander Kooij gives a presentation of his work followed by a guided tour of the exhibition. This lecture is organized in collaboration with Broeinest.
