Exhibition ‘Dutch Art & Design’

By 05-09-2016

To complement the current Rembrandt exhibition at Penthes there is a second exhibition in the museum: ‘Dutch Art & Design’. The visitors will appreciate a Dutch theme: Old Master, New Masters. The New Masters have been carefully selected to celebrate a contemporary view of the Netherlands. Work by photographer Hendrik Kerstens and leading Dutch designers Jurgen Bey, Marcel Wanders and Joris Laarman are exhibited.

Marcel Wanders shows pieces from his Personal Edition Collection and his video art work: ANTHANIUS I, II and III. Joris Laarman exhibits two works created by Joris Laarman Lab, where he collaborates with scientists and engineers in order to push technological possibilities. Jurgen Bey exhibits both unique and limited editions. Hendrik Kerstens is a photographer who makes playful references to old Dutch paintings and yet manages to achieve a strong contemporary engagement.

The Dutch Cultural Event at Penthes also includes two symposiums: on 15 and 23 September. José Teunissen (Dean of the London College of Fashion) will lead a discussion on the works of Iris van Herpen. Leading the Dutch Design discussion, Jurgen Bey will be speaking along with Ingrid van der Wacht from the Dutch Design Foundation. Professor Timo de Rijk will be the discussion leader on the 15th of September, while Hendrik Kerstens will give a talk on his work.
