Fest of movement

By 29-11-2021

Simone Post has designed the biggest mural of the Netherlands for the Vlisco Headquarters in Helmond, covering the entire 2500m2 building. Far beyond a mural, this work of art truly is an architectural intervention, and transforms the grey neglected concrete structure into a joyful celebration of colour and movement. The artwork has been created completely by hand with rollers and brushes together with painters collective ‘De Strakke Hand’.

Vlisco
“We decided to paint our office building to make a statement about who we are. Vlisco is 175 years old this year and has always stood for design and colour and bold originality. We want to show that we care about being a vibrant member of our local communities, in Helmond and also in Africa.”

 Simone Post
“In my eyes the old look of the building has always been a complete mismatch with how I envision Vlisco. It appeared locked, heavy, log and outdated, like a bunker. While for me Vlisco is on the move, a frontrunner in design and print, diverse, and above all: joyful and empowering. I started off as an intern at Vlisco in 2014. I have been working with Vlisco’s textiles for 7 years now, making new carpets and wall-hangings out of the misprints from the factory. When David asked me to design the entire outside of the building of course I said yes right away.”
