Fire station Wilrijk, Antwerp

By 11-03-2020

As part of a general realignment of its barracks, the Antwerp Fire Zone recently put a new fire brigade station into service in the municipality of Wilrijk.

Commissioned by AG Vespa, Happel Cornelisse Verhoeven designed an eye-catching building on the Gaston Fabrélaan, a busy traffic tangent south of the city. The fire station is a barracks that is manned by 24/7 by successive shifts and provides for the housing of a depot with a fire extinguisher and ladder wagon, offices and a number of living, dressing and sleeping quarters. All functions are housed in an ascending stature that is positioned in the width direction of the street and kept separate from its neighboring buildings.
