Floris Hovers x Red Stitch

By 14-04-2021

Dutch furniture brand Red Stitch launches the new Float collection by Dutch designer Floris Hovers.

Red Stitch founder Jean-Paul Peek approached designer Floris Hovers back in 2019 with a special design assignment. “I wanted Floris to release all conventions and create a new sofa sprung from his free creative mind.” Jean-Paul says. The creation process was anything but conventional. Floris skipped the sketching process and crafted a miniature sofa made from materials available in his workshop in a small town called Raamsdonksveer. Materials like wood, iron wire, cotton wool and cleaning cloth. He wanted to re-invent the sofa from a new perspective. Floris says: “Most designers start from an upholstery point of view. I wanted to start with the frame as a focal point.

Each item in the Float collection contains two elements, the wooden frame that is available in different colors and upholstered cushions that are smartly slid over the frame.

The frame of the Float is reusable and the upholstered cushions can be easily replaced. To compensate for CO2 emission due to transportation from the factory in The Netherlands to the client, Red Stitch supports the Trees for All organization. For every Float sofa sold Red Stitch will donate at least two trees.
