Formworks

By 17-10-2017

Formworks is the latest project by Studio Mieke Meijer and currently part of the solo exhibition of the studio at Onomatopee in Eindhoven.

Slipcasting is a technique for the production of ceramics. Making a slipcast object usually starts with a model from which a plaster mould has been made. A liquid clay body slip is poured into a plaster mould and is allowed to form a layer, i.e. the cast, on the inside walls of the mould.

For the Formworks series moulds were constructed from plasterboard, a gypsum-based building material used to make interior walls and ceilings. In so doing a texture appears that is reminiscent of board-formed concrete walls. The objects are named after their original function: Cooling Tower, Grain Elevator and Coal Bunker and are available as a limited edition.
