Serie III SS20 – Panama in Lava

By 19-03-2020

The new FROWIJN collection (Serie III) was inspired by a journey designer Liselore Frowijn made through Panama. It is mainly about the overwhelming nature that she encountered there, with lots of greenery, giant trees, insects and animals everywhere.

She chose the woven fabric in the collection to be made of 100% Tencel (also known as lyocell, made from the Eucalyptus tree). There are black garments made from this fabric in the collection, often in combination with a brightly coloured inkjet print. Liselore developed a hand-drawn Wasco-pattern, inspired by an embroidery technique from the Northern islands of Panama, that seems to pop out of the dark. The Tencel fabric feels as a kind of wool blend with a silky touch and movement, but is often a more durable solution than, for example, fabrics made of cotton (consumes a lot of water), polyester (‘plastic’) or silk (made by caterpillars).

The cut of the designs has a recognisable S-curved shape that plays with the bold coloured print and the pieces are aligned with graphic all-round stitched straps in irregular widths. One of the designs is a beekeeper suit, a showpiece, inspired by a beekeeper Liselore met during her trip.
