Future Food

By 17-09-2019

Exhibition at a new location of NEMO Science Museum – De Studio at the Marineterrein

What is there on your plate in 2050? Where does this food come from? And how is it made? Bloated insects on the shelf of the supermarket, a burger of cultured meat or powdered food based on your DNA profile. It may sound still far away, but with the challenges posed by a growing world population and a climate change, there is a need for a different attitude towards nutrition.

Scientists, food technologists, designers, food startups, philosophers and producers are therefore looking for new ways to make it possible to grow our food as well as consume it. Their best ideas and products are on display in the exhibition Voedsel van morgen (Future Food) which can be visited from July 10th to October 6th in the Studio of NEMO Science Museum. The new location is located on the adjacent Marineterrein.

In the exhibition Future Food, NEMO Science Museum in collaboration with Next Nature Network takes visitors on a food journey. On the basis of the scenarios of plant-based alternatives animal and functional food, visitors get a glimpse into the future of insects, cultured meat, GMO, Biotech, plant-based alternatives, alternative cultivation methods, food as medicine and new sensory food experience.

Food designer Chloé Rutzerveld, Fellow at Next Nature Network, composed the exhibition. Rutzerveld herself is the designer of the Future Food Formula installation at which visitors can create a growth recipe to design a future crop.
