Gen C: Children of 2050

By 26-04-2022

In this hybrid exhibition centered on the climate change, artist Bianca Carague will build an imaginary world of future children together with participants.

What does the life of a digitally grown child look like? How do the future children make use of indigenous knowledge and nature? Which realities exist in their metaverse? How do children raised by the whole community affect society? Tetem’s new exhibition, Gen C: Children of 2050 created by artist and designer Bianca Carague, takes the issue of climate change as a starting point and imagines four unique scenarios that could happen as a response. It is a growing installation and is activated through four different bedrooms of four different kids: Non-Fungible Child, Folkfarma Kid, Renaissance Kid & Impact Generation. Discover it in the exhibition and help build the physical and digital worlds of these future children. All ideas and inputs will be used by the artist during the exhibition period to further shape the four bedrooms. From mid-March, part of the exhibition is also growing online and in VR, so that people from all over the world can participate.

Workshops
The four bedrooms of future children serve as a basis for the elaboration of various future scenarios through workshops. In Material Worldbuilding, visitors in Tetem will devise the furniture, toys, clothing or plants of the future using simple physical materials. Other workshops that will be held with students are Scenario Building, Audio LARP (live action role playing) and Creative Writing: ‘Dear Diary’.

Bianca Carague
Bianca Carague is a social designer and artist who combines design, research and worldbuilding to tell stories about new possibilities for the future. For this exhibition, Bianca is developing a new work, which is in line with Tetem’s new program theme Futures Literacy. The exhibition is the main part of the Maker Festival Twente 2022 with the same theme. The term Futures Literacy was coined by UNESCO’s Riel Miller from the idea that “the future” does not exist. It is a skill that enables people to better understand the future.
