Glassware Series: Old and New

By 09-01-2020

Since graduating in architectural design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 2009 and founding Studio Kalff, designer Roos Kalff has steadily produced a body of work that has not only been recognized for its aesthetic value but has also found its functionality in classic and modern interiors all over the world.

New work from her glassware series uses vintage glassware as the material basis to create lighting and table pieces, subtly manipulating the form and function of the original objects. All the glassware is handmade and each piece is unique, composed of individually selected items, combining existing glassware with ceramic elements of cast glass.

In her new collection of lamps, Roos Kalff’s designs paint a picture of historical beauty in a modern approach. Inspired by the great painter Rembrandt’s pallet she creates pictures with both vintage and contemporary hand-blown glass, making singular (lighting) objects that capture a unique piece of European history.
