GLUE amsterdam – locations around the city center

By 19-09-2020

Three-day report by Anne Pieterse – project manager GLUE

Friday I cycled through Amsterdam to take a look at the participants of GLUE with locations around the city center.

My first stop was at Suite 702 where the studio of Shirley Muijrers and Olaf Arkauer is based, named after the space where John Lennon and Yoko Ono had their famous Bed-in. With a huge polaroid with holes for the heads of the visitors, they invite you to take a not too serious photo during the visit to their studio. Via the Haarlemmerstraat I cycled to Amsterdam-West where you can go to a creative hub on Contactweg 47. Contact Amsterdam offers a diverse range of design studios including Ernst Koning, Jule Cats and HOT home of treasures. Other locations I visited today are ISO Amsterdam, Lloyd hotel, Stadssalon and TANK.

ISO Amsterdam
This mixed workplace presents a special installation by Laura A Dima called ‘The Finger Rub Rug’. Visitors are invited to take place on the object, after a thorough cleanse between each visitor of course. In addition, ISO Amsterdam will present a performance by Yuri Landman saturday at 21:00, who has created a music installation of self-made instruments from a diverse range of surprising objects. The presentations can be viewed this weekend at Isolatorweg 17.

Lloyd hotel
The hotel on the Oostelijke Handelskade is home this weekend to several studios and designers, including The Table, Fields and Sheryl Leysner. Sheryl presents several lamps, including an installation of lamps with mirrors in different positions that beautifully reflect the space. There was a nice atmosphere in the hotel, which attracted a lot of visitors.

Stadssalon
The beautiful canal house of Stadssalon Amsterdam is located on the Herengracht. Various designers, including Geke Lensink, Chris Rijk and Eva Crebolder, present their personal projects in “Woven identities”.  Eva Crebolder’s ceramic work provided a big contrast to the classic atmosphere of the space. The lines of the stacked ‘jars’ on display were a surprising element in the space.

TANK
We concluded the day as a team on Rembrandtplein at TANK, with a lecture by Pernille Kok-Jensen on emerging trends and their impact in various industries, such as food, retail and luxury.
