GLUE amsterdam – Second day report

By 18-09-2021

Report by Anne Pieterse – project manager GLUE

This morning I started my day at Hotel Arena, the “Rug Hub” during GLUE. Here different designers present together in the beautiful halls of the Hotel. In lobby 2 you will find work on all the walls, on the floor and even over the railing of the stairwell.

After Hotel Arena I got on my bike, to Kvadrat. In addition to the new collection that was displayed on the table with carpet samples, the curtains stood out in the room. These were designed by Sarah Illenberger, inspired by notepads.

Close to Kvadrat is within walking distance the Hub Intercodam. At a super location on the Amstel River, Social Label and Vicky Lynn Geerdink, among others, are exhibiting their work. I thought all the designers on display at Intercodam fit the space very well.

Later, on the Prinsengracht, I was warmly welcomed by Dick mulders in, what I later learned was not his studio, but his house. Besides being a great place, the building also has a courtyard garden, where you can sit comfortably. During GLUE you can attend various lectures by the designers who are exhibiting in his house.

After this I cycled towards the two locations of the track, and wow! At the first location I was received in the house of Ruben Teuwen, who last year also opened his house (then at another location in the center) as Galerie Binnenkant. Both locations are curated by Jan Agelink, and it is an absolute must to visit during GLUE. At the second location, I was welcomed by Geke Lensink, who presented her work to the visitors who were currently standing there. Geke started painting in the lockdown when she no longer had a studio. From this came several 2d and 3d works that deal with Fuidity. She modestly says she is not at the forefront of activism, but it is nice to see her clear statements through the work on display, with for example a table that is unusable due to the relief, which if you look closely has the word ‘Arrogance’ on it.

The last location I visited was Mia Karlova gallery, in a real Amsterdam basement. At the gallery, Vadim Kibardin happened to walk in, the designer of several works in the gallery. He told me that the opening the night before was a great success, and that he was happy how the work was received.

After the various visits to the open studios houses and showrooms, I cycled to the ADAM tower for the recordings of GLUE TV. Saturday is the last day to follow these live on our website and from five to six on SALTO1.

All in all a super day, ending with drinks at The Shop Of Beautiful Things, where the owner Davide with a big smile tells everyone about his passion project on the Overtoom. I am looking forward to the last two days! www.kibardindesign.com
