GLUE amsterdam – Second day

By 20-09-2020

Three-day report by Anne Pieterse – project manager GLUE

During the second day of GLUE I started the day in Amsterdam West on the Kanaalstraat where Peter van de Water is located with his workplace. In a beautiful light space he shows a combination of products and scale models. In his small garden, he presents the “Bloom” chairs, made from recycled plastic, they stand out beautifully against the overgrown garden fence.

After a small tour through Moooi, I cycled to Broeinest Amsterdam. We had a delicious lunch at Toko Mansoor, where chef Martin treated us very well. After lunch we went to Pepe Heykoop, Wool, Samira Boon, Femke Gemerts and Binnenkant.

Pepe Heykoop & Anna Gray
Next to Broeinest we visited the studio of Pepe Heykoop and Anna Gray. They show different designs scattered between the machines in the workshop. Pepe works a lot with recycled material and uses it in his work in a playful way. Anna is inspired by nature and uses that in her work, working mostly with the material glass. In a collaboration between Pepe and Anna, a prototype of the new work “Fused Light” is shown at GLUE for the first time. The lamps are a perfect combination of the two designers and their work and the studio is definitely worth a visit.

Wool
On the way back from Amsterdam North, Wool is located on the KNSM-island. Together with studio Kalff, they show the sound-absorbing room dividers in combination with glass pendant lights. Pendant lights are made from a combination of vintage tableware and added glass blown parts.

Samira Boon
Samira Boon’s studio is located next to the Lloyd hotel, during GLUE she presents various projects and experiments related to textile architecture. The objects are exhibited in her workshop, which creates a welcome atmosphere. The studio is located in a beautiful building, where they guide the visitor through the presented work. At the end of the route they have a sample sale of her previously produced work.

Femke van Gemert
Femke’s studio is hidden at a beautiful location. Through an overgrown green courtyard you enter the cheerful studio located on the Derde Wittenburgerdwarsstraat. She gave a lecture about her work, which is made entirely from recycled textiles. In the workshop where she presents her work, there is also a huge cabinet with not yet used material, completely sorted by color, which is also an interesting object to look at.

Binnenkant
Binnenkant Amsterdam, which presents ‘Humble design’ hosting six designers, including Geke Lensink, OS∆OOS and Rive Roshan, is located on a very central location. The 17th century building is definitely worth a visit during GLUE, especially because of the designers who exhibit there, but also just to take a look at the binnenkant.
