Graphic Days Torino ‘Eyes on the Netherlands’

By 14-05-2021

ONE WEEK ABOUT Graphic Days by Dennis Elbers, founder of Graphic Matters and guest-curator of Graphic Days ‘Eyes on the Netherlands’.

For culture you have to travel these days
Somewhat uncomfortably I get into the plane, heading for Turin. While museums in the Netherlands are not allowed to open yet and have a sad prospect of doing so, today marks the start of the largest graphic design festival in Southern Europe: Graphic Days. Over eight months later than initially planned, the time has come. A special edition dedicated to Dutch design.

For the next two weeks there are various exhibitions, lectures and workshops to visit. It is a relief to visit a ‘real’ cultural event again. Even abroad! Although part of the programme will take place online. But that is just fine! Then you in the Netherlands can also be present.

The trip to Turin was totally different than expected. Schiphol is actually quite busy. And covid has its advantages. Few groups and families in the flight. Laptops do not have to be taken out of your bag for the scanners. And even a bottle of water passes the security check without a hitch.

The arrival is also completely different than expected. Turin (and Milan, for that matter) are full of announcements. Graphic Days ‘Eyes on the Netherlands’ posters hang in the streets and on the trams. Nice to see that in Italy the importance of our culture is recognised!
