“Together with designer Bas Koopmans we created an inspirational campaign for the Dutch music festival Into the Great Wide Open. A music festival on an island is highly dependent on the weather conditions. Rainy weather can be an obstacle, forcing people to change plans or take precautions, whereas when the sun shines everyone is relaxed. But weather is more than just a condition: it is a substantial part of the ambience.”

“To capture the rich ambience of the festival and let people connect with the weather on an aesthetic level, we designed a festival campaign using weather data. The generative data poster is based on the weather data of Vlieland (the host island). The data determined the composition and elements on the poster while maintaining a feel that is in harmony with the festival itself. “

“Over time, the generator produced a variety of compositions, giving insights on the dramatic weather changes on and surrounding the island. These visuals were harnessed to create several visual assets for the festival including posters, brochures, merchandise and stage decoration.”
